My Mental Health Speaking Journey – Brent Seal

“The journey has been full of ups and downs, but it’s been one of the most rewarding journey’s of my life”

I still remember the first time I shared my story at a conference. It was a health care conference, with mostly professionals in the audience.

I don’t specifically remember being nervous, but I’m sure I was.

I was on a panel and was meant to share my story of lived experience along with a couple of others.

I got my first applause from the audience when I said we need education, not interrogation from the mental health professionals.

It was an electrifying feeling. A full on adrenaline rush to have the attention of the room and share the ideas I believed in so much.

That was also the day I met Keli Anderson, who has become an incredible mentor and inspiration to me.

She was also speaking that day and we connected in the speakers room as I was keen to get involved in mental health.

Over the next few years, I continued to share my story as much as I could and always enjoyed connect with the audience.

But there came a time when I knew I had to invest in specific speaker training.

I knew I had more potential, but the world of public speaking can be confusing, and difficult to break into.

I decided to invest in a 4 day training seminar in California to prepare for my 2014 TEDx Talk.

I was blown away with how much there was to know and how these trainers were sharing so openly the secrets of the trade.

I decided to go deeper and signed up for more seminars, one-one coaching and group coaching, using money from a project we got funded to pay for it.

Then all of a sudden, it happened… my first 4-figure speech.

Paid $1500 to speak at a conference, when I was used to being paid $200-$500. Not only that, I received my first full standing ovation and the organizers were thrilled with how it went.

I realized that it’s not about charing as high a fee as you can… it’s about charging a high fee and over-delivering on that speech. Then everyone wins.

It’s about levelling up, and the thing with speaking is there’s no upper limit.

Here’s a video clip of the Before-and-After of my speaking journey…

Brent’s Speaking Journey // Before & After Speaker Training

Recently, I’ve been focused on what’s called the ripple effect.

Realizing I can’t perform every speech out there, and am not the only mental health speaker, I decided to build a mental health focused training program to empower youth and young adults who are as passionate about raising awareness and sharing their mental health stories as I am.

I’m committed to empowering youth and young adults through this training to help create a ripple effect of mental health awareness.

The training is called the LEAP Academy and covers both the performance and business sides of mental health public speaking.

It’s everything I know about how to become an established, in demand, well paid mental health public speaker.

And applications are open, but they close Saturday, Oct 28 at 11:59pm!!

If you’re someone who feels called to this, who has a story within to share with the world, I invite you to apply and look forward to reading your application.

You can find all the details here…

Or you can apply directly here…

Here’s what past LEAP Member Rylee had to say about the training…

All the best, and whether you apply for the LEAP training or not, I hope you reach the world with your important message of hope and inspiration!!
