Mental Health Profiles On Instagram Not To Miss

Follow these awesome mental health peeps on Instagram for daily inspiration

In the lead up to Bell Let’s Talk Day, I’ve been highlighting awesome people who are killing it in raising awareness in mental health in Canada and around the world. Theses are people I follow and look to for inspiration, ideas and empowerment.

Mental health is still a relatively small community, and that’s what I love about it. The people out there promoting it do so because they care. Most have been affected and most do it as a way to give back for the support they’ve received. At lease those are my favourite promoters.

Here are some for you to check out on Instagram if you’re in that world…

Break Yo Stigma – @BREAKYOSTIGMA

This guy’s baddass and totally awesome. He’s based in Silicon Valley in California and he stands out in an area where most hide their struggles. He’s spoken at universities like Berkeley and connects with like minded peers to highlight their inspiring stories.

One Wave is All it Takes – @ONEWAVEISALLITTAKES

These guys rock. They’re based in Australia and they’re probably my favourite mental health crew on Instagram because: a. they’re surfers and b. they make raising awareness for mental health SO MUCH FUN!! They have a thing called Fluro Friday where they get together at the beach for a surf session all wearing the brightest, most neon clothing they can find to raise awareness for mental health. I’ve seen Fluro Friday posts pop up everywhere from Bali to Hawaii and I’d love to bring it to Canada if Tofino weren’t so far away.

Demi Lovato – @DDLOVATO

Demi Lovato rocks mental health awareness to millions. She’s a performer first, but has been very open and real with her own struggles and is an incredible role model with a big platform. She’s not often promoting mental health, but when she does, a lot of people hear about (example, example, example)

Here’s a quote from an article on Billboard…

“Bipolar depression really got my life off track, but today I’m proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love, and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support and treatment they need.”

– Demi Lovato

mindcheck – @MINDCHECK_CA

mindcheck means a lot to me as I was part of the team that launched and led their social media efforts from the get go. We were able to build the Facebook Page to over 1000 followers and Twitter Profile to over 2000. Their Instagram account is new, but it will surely grow as they get more active.

They post regular updates and inspiration on all things mental health and their partnership with the Canucks brings some awesome perks.

Wear Your Label – @WEARYOURLABEL

Wear Your Label is one of my favourite up and coming groups [disclosure: I’m one of their Community Champions]. I love them because they’re one of Canada’s first social enterprises dedicated to raising money and awareness for mental health. Plus they make awesome, stylish, conscious clothing.

For innovation and inspiration, check theses guys out. They’re based on the East Coast of Canada, but they’ve already started to gain momentum nationally.
